Chemo Round 1
Chemo Round 2 Tamika Norina 4:40 am wake up and start the day. this includes reading scripture, writing in my journal, and having a cup of coffee. 5:20 am do an easy workout while watching a 60 minutes story about one of my favorite podcasters. 6:15 am take a walk around the neighborhood and listen to the first half of a sermon. December 9 – i’ve been anxious to start my chemotherapy ever since november 4 when guy, my sister ilana who is a gyn oncologist, my friend yasmin and i learned on our first video call with my kaiser oncologist dr. eva thomas that i must undergo 12 rounds of weekly chemotherapy.
Chemo Round 1 The hangover with no party i started my first round of chemo on june 6 with a cocktail known to knock people down—doxorubicin (aka the red devil) and ifosfamide. the infusions were surprisingly tolerable, but the aftermath? it felt like waking up with a hangover… minus the fun night out. Shortly after the first chemotherapy drug (“we call it agent,” the nurse had told me), paclitaxel, was being administered, something went wrong. within several minutes, i felt hot and flushed, had trouble breathing, and my ears started ringing.
