Chemo Round 5 Tamika Norina My first round of chemo is officially in the books—and while the nerves were real, so were the moments of unexpected comfort, surreal cold war flashbacks, and gratitude in the unlikeliest places. The hangover with no party i started my first round of chemo on june 6 with a cocktail known to knock people down—doxorubicin (aka the red devil) and ifosfamide. the infusions were surprisingly tolerable, but the aftermath? it felt like waking up with a hangover… minus the fun night out. Here's the number of chemotherapy cycles needed to treat cancer, depending on the type and stage of cancer. What i find helps me is to write down all my fears, questions and practicalities and to ask my consultant or specialist nurse. voicing all my fears, questions and practicalities really helps me and as they are mine then they are valid and i find it stops them going round and round in my mind.

I had a bunch of minor (and some very whacky) side effects, but none of the major problems that are common with chemo. essentially back to feeling 100% after day seven of the cycle, and back to normal day to day activities. My first chemo immunotherapy (maxi chop) was delivered outpatient at mayo, 90 minutes south from home. by the time charlie and i made it back up to the cities afterwards, i wasn’t feeling well. i ended up in the emergency room that night with a neutropenic fever. I had nausea meds prescribed before i started chemo. and from the beginning they pumped me full of pre meds to try to control the nausea. it worked very very well as i was never sick. just keep your team informed during and after your treatment of any kind of side effects, you are having. I'm glad to hear that chemo went well and that you have no more back pain! i will be starting chemo in 3 weeks, xeloda, avastin and oxylaplatin. please keep me posted as to what side effects you experience.
