Cancer Pharmacogenomics Biocode
Cancer Genomics Biocode What is cancer pharmacogenomics? pharmacogenomics is the study of genetic factors that influence drug efficacy and toxicity. these studies aim to elucidate the genetic variation that is present across individuals affecting pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. This review provides an update on cancer pharmacogenomics and genomics based medicine, challenges in applying pharmacogenomics to the clinical setting, and patient perspectives on the use of pharmacogenomics to personalize cancer therapy.
Cancer Genomics Biocode This review explores the central role of pharmacogenomics in addressing key challenges in cancer therapy, including drug resistance, variability in drug response between patients and chemotherapy induced toxicity. Applying pharmacogenomics within cancer has considerable differences compared to other complex diseases, as there are two genomes that need to be considered the germline and the tumour. As part of the 100,000 genomes project, we set out to assess the potential viability and clinical impact of reporting genetic variants associated with drug induced toxicity for patients with cancer recruited for whole genome sequencing (wgs) as part of a genomic medicine service. Pharmacogenomics inspects how your dna is affected by the way you respond to drugs. the long term goal of pharmacogenomics is to help doctors select the drugs that are best suited for each person. it is part of the field of precision medicine, which aims to treat each patient individually.

Introduction the development of cancer genomics has significantly increased in recent years, providing insights into genome variations in both normal and tumor cells. recent findings in cancer pharmacogenomics have provided tumor and host information for optimizing cancer treatment (fig. 22.1). Clinpgx captures clinical and preclinical research pgx from the literature and from drug labels and provides annotations linking specific variants and drug response, dosing guidelines where available, detailed gene summaries and drug pathways. Knowledge of pharmacogenomics and pharmacogenetics can be very useful in the area of oncology, as they constitute additional tools that can help to individualize patients' treatment. In the context of cancer, tumours may have specific disease defining mutations, but a patient’s germline genetic variation will also affect drug response (both efficacy and toxicity), and here we focus on how to study this variation.
