In this post, i’ll be taking a used model seven synthetic chambered in 223 remington and converting it into a lightweight custom hunting rifle in 257 ackley improved (40 degree shoulder). I've built and owned several model 7's in 6ppc, 6br, 7br, 222, 221fb, 250 and most recently picked up a friends half done build in 6 284 (why?), which i fitted with a boyds stock. While not at all punishing, the 7 08 recoils more than i'd like for a compact rifle. before i pursue any barrel change, i should just develop a reduced load for the 7 08 that has adequate accuracy and terminal performance using 120 gr. projectiles. They are most certainly the remington custom shop m7's. all are hand made to the tightest tolerances and of the three i've had a chance to shoot were all sub .5moa guns with remington corelock ammunition.
