We modified our router to run at a dram speed of 800 mhz (1600 mt s) and a cpu speed of 1200 mhz. re tested the memory after the modification and everything looked fine!. Yet over time as consumer routers stopped being terrible, i’d end up using those instead. that said, despite recent improvements there are still reasons today to put your own router. I'm just a bit doubtful whether my networking skills will suffice to construct a full blown and secure home router firewall from scratch. so i guess there will be a lot of learning on the way, but that is also part of the fun and motivation of this project.
