Retired blenko workers showed their skill at producing this beautiful glass, and there were five of the original designers attending. while there, we met two blenko collector society members, deborah allen and rick trickett who were also members of the peach state depression glass club in atlanta. After the great depression decimated the market, blenko and his son refocused his work toward producing colorful stemware and tableware. the company makes hand blown glass today, but production is limited. Blenko glass is made using the same methods and tools that the master craftsmen in europe used hundreds of years ago. all workers at blenko are trained on the job and perpetuate a 1000 year old tradition. the workers in glass factories are divided into groups of six, called "shops". Blenko recruited louis miller and axel muller, master glassworkers who had trained in sweden, to make this glass and train other glassworkers in their skills. and soon after their glass was included in carbones' catalogue, it was being sold in major department stores across the country. All of us at blenko are aware that the glass you order allows our company, our workers and our community to thrive and to continue a centuries old tradition that needs to be preserved.
