There was really only one port of call for these jobs arch motors, based in huntingdon. arch has been making caterhams since the beginning, and so it made perfect sense to return our car to the place she was originally created. Two things strike you when you first see an unpainted caterham chassis at arch. first, how many bits there are! the rear frame would be replaced. so many of the very exposed tubes in this area would have to be cut out and replaced, it is easier to just replace the whole frame with a new one.

From what i recall talking with bruce about when my frame went back to arch for a rebuild, they just have a jig 1 and jig 2. i don't believe there is any intended difference between them, just the inevitable subtleties between two hand built jigs that have evolved over time. For over sixty years, arch motor has been the go to company if you want a chassis for your racecar or specialist road car. they have been making caterham and lotus seven chassis for over sixty years and during the sixties every f1 team bar honda and ferrari used their services. "current chassis builder, arch motors, will continue to support caterham's healthy aftermarket and motorsport car park for the existing chassis. more than 11,500 sevens have been built since 1973, with an estimated 90 percent still in existence.". From 1991 onwards the european standard 17 character vin starting with 'sdk' (the identifier for caterham cars) was adopted, but post 1991 cars are still referenced in the archive as kxxxx.
