Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program Natrium Climate Program Portal The package provides almost $2.5 billion dollars through fiscal year 2025 for the department of energy’s contribution to the advanced reactor demonstration program, which selected x energy and terrapower to demonstrate their advanced nuclear reactors before the end of the decade. The advanced reactor demonstrations program (ardp) helps to support the demonstration of advanced reactors through cost shared partnerships with u.s. industry.

Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program Department Of Energy Explore our interactive dashboard to see the impact of transitioning to a decarbonized system with innovations like the natrium reactor and energy storage system. the dashboard demonstrates natrium’s unique ability to provide firm, flexible power to an evolving electric grid. The natrium design combines features from the previous geh prism and terrapower traveling wave designs. the proposed natrium reactor is a 345 mwe pool type sodium fast reactor using haleu metal fuel. The project will bring a commercial operating, advanced nuclear reactor online that will deliver carbon free, reliable power to the electric grid and provide good paying jobs in wyoming for decades to come. Nric provides coordination and leadership for the advanced reactor demonstration projects (ardp) program. an nric or inl coordinator is assigned to each project to assist with reporting capabilities.

Natrium can be located anywhere that meets the nrc criteria, but has added value in markets that have a high penetration of renewables, that both need a stable baseload and need power on demand when solar and wind are not available. Terrapower is building the first natrium plant through a public private partnership with the u.s. department of energy's (doe) advanced reactor demonstration program (ardp). this program authorizes up to $2 billion for the natrium project and terrapower will match this investment dollar for dollar. The goal of this program is to support the deployment of these advanced reactors, addressing the licensing, construction, and operational risks that come with building a first of its kind technology. Maintaining momentum on advanced nuclear energy development through ardp will allow u.s. companies to regain global leadership in advanced nuclear energy and move the world forward on the commercialization and deployment of advanced nuclear reactors as a climate and energy solution.
