Active Implementation Research Network The stages of implementation are exploration, installation, initial implementation, and full implementation. the availability of a skilled implementation team facilitates the expeditious movement from exploration to full implementation. In 2005, the national implementation research network released a monograph synthesizing implementation research findings across a range of fields. based on these findings, nirn developed five overarching frameworks referred to as the active implementation frameworks.

Active Implementation Research Network There are four functional implementation stages: exploration, installation, initial implementation, full implementation. stages of implementation do not cleanly end as another begins. The active implementation model is unique because, like other process models, it outlines specific steps for implementation; but unlike other process models, it provides additional frameworks and resources to operationalize each step, making it more practical. Purpose: this at a glance guide was designed to serve as a reference or reminder of the 5 active implementation frameworks1,2. these frameworks apply to any organization, and any level of a system (e.g., local, district, state provincial). Use the implementation stages to assess a program or practice’s status and identify its current stage of implementation. implementation may be in more than one stage at the same time; this is particularly true for initiatives implementing more than one practice or program.

To use innovations and active implementation in practice takes time and effort. exploration, installation, initial implementation, and full implementation stages guide organization and system investments in innovations supported by implementation best practices. The active implementation research network® is a learning organization to advance implementation practice, research, and policy and to support the development of implementation science as a field and a profession. Implementation stages outline the integrated, non linear process of deciding to use an effective innovation and finally having it fully in place to realize the promised outcomes. active implementation stages are exploration, installation, initial implementation and full implementation. In this commentary we separate current intention from accomplishment, highlight the need for active implementation, and describe the critical functions of implementation teams to establish and sustain a national health response to current and future challenges.
