Here, we report an embedded shape morphing scheme with the shape actuation, sensing, and locking, all embedded in a robot’s body. For the first time, we express the deformation of shape morphing devices using 3d point cloud data and propose a novel machine learning model to correlate this representation with the input vector that represents the control inputs to an array of actuators (figure 1a). Morphing quadrotors, capable of dynamically altering their structure during flight, offer a promising solution to extend and optimize the operational capabilities of conventional drones.
