Jeep Yj Starter Wiring Pictures Faceitsalon I have a 92 yj and it’s got some weird issues when starting. a couple of weeks ago it refused to start after a quick stop at the store, and i thought it was a battery issue since no lights came on and there was 0 action when i tried to start it. With enough conductivity to run most of the jeep but when tasked with carrying the hundreds of amps of starter load simply have too much resistance. this would explain why you're seeing 9v at the starter when you try to crank.
92 Yj Starter Bolts Identification Jeep Wrangler Forum Sounds like a bad connection. check the connections at the battery, starter, and the engine ground. everything is working but when you hit the key it burns the tiny connection you have and doesn't let the big power needed through to start the jeep. This might sound silly, but i was having the same problem in the spring. it was a loose fuel pump ground. the ground is bolted to the parking brake up under the dash. if it wiggles, that might be your issue. mine starts up every day with no trouble since fixing that little nuisance. I turned the key, normal dash lights came on and as i continued to engage the starter, i heard a click and all the dash warning lights went off and stayed off. i checked the fuses in the block under the hood and the fuses inside near the emergency brake and they looked fine. Pull the relay out and make sure you get 12vdc on the signal terminal when turning to the key to start. you'll also check that you have 12vdc on the relay terminal that is always supposed to be energized.
