2019 Reading Stats In 2019, we had reading skill data for 712 pupils aged 11 to 14, which allowed us to explore the link between reading enjoyment, reading frequency and reading skill. Key findings 76.3% of children aged 5 to 8 enjoy reading and 74.8% enjoy writing in their free time. more girls than boys enjoy reading and writing. more children read (53.6%) than write daily (43.6%) outside class. more girls than boys say they read and write daily outside class.
