7 Steps To Prepare For A Social Media Crisis In this guide, we explore the challenges and opportunities that social media presents during a crisis. by guiding you through essential steps – from mitigation to management to recovery – we aim to provide practical strategies to help you be well prepared for handling crises. Community resilience following a crisis has become essential to avoid panic. in contrast, social media usage has been practical to improve public resilience. however, the impacts of social media crisis response and social interaction have not been fully addressed. Three themes were identified as emerging from literature on disaster recovery: the use of social media to achieve positive mental health outcomes, how social media can help in assessment of ongoing progress in post event recovery, and how social media channels contribute to relationship building. Research has shown that the use of social media in disaster contexts is wide ranging, from receiving disaster preparedness information and warnings to detecting and signaling disasters before they occur, as well as reconnecting community members following a dis aster (houston et al. 2015). To better understand how young adults are engaging with technology during this global communication crisis, an international study was conducted, covering approximately 23,500 respondents, aged 18 40 years, in 24 countries across five continents. Social mediated crisis communication refers to the dissemination of direct and indirect information on traditional media and social media channels involving various types of users, including influential media, social media followers and social media inactive.
