1 Month Post Swarm Inspection R Beekeeping I just did an inspection of my hive that swarmed on june 11th. i had inspected a few days after the swarm and there were several swarm cells, so i’ve been leaving the hive alone and letting the bees do their bee thing. A fellow beek here started beekeeping last year with a swarm he caught in his yard. this year he has caught several more and we inspect for which of his hives they came from, sometimes it seems unlikely any did.

1 Month Post Swarm Inspection R Beekeeping A swarm will not reveal its true temper for a while but when the colony is strong you may be unpleasantly surprised and find inspections hard work and uncomfortable. There should be a valid beekeeping reason for the inspection – disturbing colonies unnecessarily causes stress and disrupts the nest. after an inspection, the bees will need to restore the temperature of the nest to its normal level and regain the normal functioning of the colony. Did you perform the demaree method for swarm control a little too late? learn what to do with your beehive after the colony has swarmed in this guide from the keeper's hive. I was giving advice to a beekeeper on how often they need to do inspections. i would also advise that they preemptively discourage swarming with proper technique, which makes biweekly inspections acceptable.

New swarm just moved into my hive either yesterday or today (i just seen them today, didn’t check yesterday) i was wanting to let them get settled in, when will it be okay to do an inspection?. I check once a week during swarm season, and once every 2 weeks or so if there's a heavy nectar flow ongoing, because they can and will swarm out of season if they run out of space for honey. otherwise, once a month may be sufficient. Unless you're southern hemisphere, it's awfully late in the fall for a swarm to be able to get established without frames of comb and honey to work with. Hi, i recently had a hive swarm an hour or two after an inspection, taking about half the bees with. before the inspection they seemed pretty calm and no obvious signs of swarming.
