Policy Brief Women S Leadership In Health Conflict And Peacebuilding Across southeast asia, the wps agenda has taken root in diverse and uneven ways, shaped by each country’s political economy, histories of conflict, development trajectories, and gender norms. The regional project “empowering women for sustainable peace – preventing violence and promoting social cohesion in asean” (wps asean project) builds on a long standing partnership between un women and asean and responds to the 2021 asean regional study on women, peace and security (wps). Since 2000, the women, peace and security agenda has been the major international instrument attempting to reconfigure the way security is viewed, increase the role of women in decision making processes and integrate gendered perspectives into security topics, including disaster response. Canada is pleased that our support to un women’s empowering women for sustainable peace initiative has contributed to the development of this historic asean regional plan of action on wps, and with it, helped open the doors for women peacebuilders to participate in peace dialogues in the region. This document outlines a regional framework for advancing the women, peace and security agenda and inclusive governance in asia pacific from 2023 2027. it will do this through two pillars: 1) supporting women's meaningful participation in peace and security processes, and 2) promoting women's leadership in governance. This report presents a reflection on 25 years of the implementation of the women, peace, and security agenda in un peacekeeping operations, focusing on women’s full, equal, and meaningful.
