My question is, how can you tell which records were made to be played with the “nail” stylus, vs a 78 that requires a proper 78 style cartridge/stylus? I assume in the 40’s and 50’s these “nail” stylus’ were not what was used.
Furthermore, all Things Victrola and Victor Talking Machines. The safe bet is to get a true mono cartridge that can play a v-groove and use that on the old 78s. It will do just fine, it won't destroy the music any more then the 100g + "tracking" weight of an old victrola.
