Have you tried cleaning with naphtha? Try a little Ronsonol lighter fluid on a soft cloth or buy a can of naphtha from a paint store. Naphtha will not harm lacquer finishes. It is completely inert.
It is also great at softening glue from stickers , velcro, etc. Do not use Goo Gone or Goof Off, or any other product containing citric acid. Anyway, I think Goo Gone used to contain Naphtha or similar chemical and it worked great, but they changed the formula several years ago, eliminating the naphtha (replaced with orange oil?), and now it hardly works at all.
