Network Women Weaving The Future Welcome to the website of the network women weaving the future! formed in 2018, our vision is built on decades and even centuries of struggle against patriarchy, capitalism, imperialism, and colonialism. We joined hands to dance and celebrated the diversity of our cultures, and reached a deep understanding of our common fight against patriarchal capitalist power. over 700 strong women from over 40 different organisations across borders came together. we learnt the truth of international solidarity.
Network Women Weaving The Future Seni kreatif’s success story underscores the potential for sustainable and community centered development, serving as inspiration for female entrepreneurs in traditional sectors. Now, we’re ready to scale this impact through rise: rural innovation for sustainable empowerment, a 36 month initiative aiming to support 100 women led weaving groups in 10 indonesian provinces, with plans to expand to asean countries where weaving is also part of the cultural heritage. Tapping on the existing wicker weaving tradition among indonesian women, the social enterprise engages women to produce wicker craft, an alternative employment to subsistence farming. This case study documented how the initiative to preserve ikat weaving eventually became means to empower women weavers across villages of the sikka regency and an estimate of over 1200 women weavers.

Behind every piece of kain lies a powerful story—a tale spun by the hands of women who breathe life into these vibrant fabrics. each motif, color, and pattern is a testament to their skill, resilience, and creativity. In this tradition, women have played a crucial role in preserving ancestral knowledge and promoting local economies through the production of alpaca wool fibres for yarns and weaving. it is estimated that around 60 per cent of the alpaca breeding labour force in peru is made up of women.
