Heavy mechs bridge the gap between speed, power, and armour. they aren't fast enough to outrun a medium but they are generally stronger then all of them; they work best as a heavy support.

Mediums require a different playstyle than assaults or heavies to be effective, and if you aren't willing to try a different approach then stick to heavy assault mechs as you'll never be effective in a medium. What are some overlooked heavies and assaults that you feel aren't given the love and appreciation they deserve. bonus points if you mention your weapons loadout!. But after about 40 hours in now i'm just finding that some mechs, namely the lighter ones, don't live up to their ilk. so my question is, given the limitations of the mechs in this specific game to fit the mechanics, what are the top 3 "best" mechs in each weight class?.

Shadowhawk is a great all around mech. good for fire support or even brawling. bushwacker is a really nasty fire support that you can put a couple racs on to ruin someone's day. Learn from me, you probably don’t need 16 active mechs to complete dragons gambit if you have a decent stock of heavy, medium and assault mechs. i’m on arcturan arms incursion now, and will only have 2 mechs being cycled out for repairs right now. It's therefore better to deploy medium mechs, rather than either the quickdraw or dragon. the deployable tonnage saved will enable you to bring a few heavier mechs with better weapon variety and armour into battle. Far from it. medium ‘mechs are quite versatile in mechwarrior 5: mercs. they are adequately fast, have ample armor and can deal good damage, even at higher reputation levels. it’s just that the late game has enemies that are tankier & deal more damage, rendering a lot of medium ‘mechs obsolete.
