What Is Three Dimensional Learning Activate Learning The working together of the three dimensions to make sense of phenomena and design solution to problems is referred to as 3 dimensional learning. it represents an entirely new way of thinking about and enacting science teaching. Part of the nrc’s intent is to better explain and extend what is meant by “inquiry” in science and the range of cognitive, social, and physical practices that it requires. although engineering design is similar to scientific inquiry, there are significant differences.

What Is Three Dimensional Learning Activate Learning Three dimensional instruction is quite different than traditional learning models. in a 3 dimensional environment, teachers use a discovery based approach to teaching. Teachers can incorporate three dimensional learning in the classroom by designing lessons and activities that intentionally blend the three dimensions into meaningful, student centered learning experiences. If we want our students to understand science, we need to give them the opportunity to experience the joy of science the way that scientists do — by exploring the many different dimensions of science through three dimensional learning. Three dimensional learning uses science and engineering practices to actively engage students in science learning, integrating these with disciplinary core ideas and crosscutting concepts, and explaining phenomena and or designing solutions to problems to drive student learning.

Here we report on an analysis of video data of class sessions that allows us to characterize these sessions as active, 3d, neither, or both 3d and active. we find that 3d classes are likely to also involve student engagement (i.e. be active), but the reverse is not necessarily true. By using ngss three dimensional learning, educators are doing more than teaching a specific performance expectation. educators are also supporting young minds in developing critical thinking skills – the skills they will need to question, analyze, evaluate, problem solve, create, and innovate. We find that 3d classes are likely to also involve student engagement (i.e. be active), but the reverse is not necessarily true. This new awards program, created by and for teachers, will spotlight innovative new products, technologies, and services that are opening a world of stem learning for students.
