Burien Creative District What is a creative district? why does burien need a creative district? welcome! to attract and advocate for the creative economy through programming and promotion of arts and culture, fostering a resilient economic future for burien. The bcd will concentrate and amplify burien’s cultural heritage and foster a growing arts and entertainment community, to benefit the livelihoods of all residents and enhance burien’s identity and livability.
Welcome Burien Creative District Initial work on the creative district is being undertaken by seattle southside chamber of commerce’s burien creative district committee. the committee is composed of individuals, businesses, representatives from city government and nonprofits, all from burien. The burien strawberry festival is a family friendly event that takes place mainly in town square park. the festival includes a variety of attractions, including: petting zoo, live music, performance, artists, crafts, food and beverages, touch a truck exhibit. The buzz subcommittee was formed to work on a community outreach and engagement strategy and the vision subcommittee was formed to work on the strategic plan for the district. it is estimated that together volunteer contributions for subcommittee work total between 400 and 500 hours collectively. There's room for artists to make their mark in a city that welcomes creativity. we want artists to come to burien and feel confident in their ability to express themselves and leave a lasting impact on the community. The idea of a creative district had been discussed in burien for more than ten years before it became a reality. the following is a brief history of the most recent work leading up to official certification by the washington state arts commission.
