While living aboard our 40 foot cold molded wood cutter celeste through an unusually severe winter in the pacific northwest, my husband seth and i had a lot of time to think about how best to deal with winter liveaboard woes and came up with these 12 tips. It's my first full winter living aboard in 20 years (i own a catalina 42 mk 1) on the edge of the san juan islands north of seattle. last year i was house sitting for the first half of it. this year i am struggling with the dark and cold more than usual. There are two things that hold me back: 1, maintenance costs and 2, winter. owning a boat has never made much sense to me unless i live on it year round. i'd like to sell my house and buy a boat comfortable enough to enjoy year round; that i would enjoy on those colder, gray, rainy days. It’s quite warm and cozy when those icy winter blasts swirl around your boat. you’ll most certainly feel much warmer than your friends who live in houses since you’ll have plenty of flexible heating choices in a relatively small space. we never get tired of the coziness.
