Violent Night Review Urbanmatter
Violent Night Review Audiences will be forever torn about what to watch during the holiday season but violent night is a film that surprisingly manages to successfully straddle the line as a christmas film but with a lot of heart and violent delights. It could have taken its cool concept even further, but violent night is still a funny, gory good time and david harbour is terrific as a santa you won't want to mess with. it ain’t miracle.
Violent Night Review Urbanmatter The latest film from norwegian pulp specialist tommy wirkola (perhaps best known for the nazi zombie picture dead snow) is an exuberantly violent home invasion heist thriller. "violent night" is an entertaining but forgettable holiday action comedy. while david harbour shines as santa claus, the movie's lack of imagination and depth holds it back from being truly special. “violent night’s 101 minutes may seem brisk, but ultimately it benefits the film from never overstaying or dragging on during its runtime.”. The sequel to violent night is currently in the works, and it should be all about trudy splitting terrorist bodies and tainting the snow blood red. her ledger will be gushing, dripping in blood red – santa will be proud of her. everything involving the lightstone family was uninteresting and could have ended in most, if not all, of their deaths.

Fast forward a couple of years, and violent night, directed by tommy wirkola, has finally arrived in theaters. the film delivers exactly what it promises: santa claus (an extremely game david harbour) bashing people’s heads in to save some hostages, christmas, and maybe a marriage. There is truth in advertising: “violent night” is set on christmas and it’s gore in santa’s beard brutal. that is the one shred of honesty in a terminally cynical movie that tries to pass off. Like a cyanide laced sugarplum, violent night is a jolly and vicious burst of holiday mayhem. bloody and crass, yet brimming with christmas spirit, it’s a 110 minute joke that largely works because of how firmly everyone involved commits to the bit. Violent night is predominantly comedic in nature, although some of the violence can be tonally jarring. wirkola doesn’t skimp on blood and viscera. some of this stuff is quite funny – the home alone material in particular – but there are times when it seems too mean spirited to generate laughter.
