Urban Risk Lab
Urban Risk Lab

Urban Risk Lab The urban systems lab has been a global leader in urban resilience since 2015, partnering with cities, ngos, and international organizations to develop innovative climate solutions. The urban systems engineering lab (use lab) aims to develop a people centric, quantitative, and predictive understanding of the bottom up organization of cities and use these insights to improve the efficiency and resilience of urban infrastructures.

Urban Systems Engineering Lab This work develops and applies advanced synthetic and hybrid modeling to reveal how climate driven extreme events can trigger cascading failures across interconnected urban infrastructure systems and to inform more resilient planning for cities and regions. Usl will focus on the new, holistic and cross cutting inter disciplinary field of “urban systems engineering,” and will play its part in creating the next generation of urban system integrators. The urban systems lab (usl) is an interdisciplinary research, design, and practice space at the new school that provides information and analysis for developing more equitable, resilient, and sustainable cities. Fraunhofer iao helps municipalities, public utilities and private companies create urban systems and processes in an agile, flexible manner. in this context, we combine our expertise in technology with the latest scientific findings on organization and spatial development.

Ahmed received his ph.d. in engineering and technology in 2018 from the university of liège in belgium. his research, teaching, and community engagement center on the development and application of modeling and simulation tools for exploring urban systems, land use change, and transport. The urban systems lab is an interdisciplinary research, design and practice space at new york university that provides knowledge and analysis for developing more equitable, resilient, and. Our lab just published two new arxiv papers on deep learning for mobility flows in cities: 'urbanpulse' uses graph and transformer models for highly fine grained predictions across cities. 'flogan' uses conditional gans to generate scenario based mobility networks. Our goal is to understand and predict people's city wide mobility patterns and how they affect and are affected by changes in urban infrastructures. to achieve this goal, we combine urban science with artificial intelligence.
