The Mediterranean Sea Programme Enhancing Environmental Security The medprogramme operationalizes priority actions to reduce major transboundary environmental stresses in coastal areas while strengthening climate resilience and water security and improving the health and livelihoods of coastal populations. The gef unep map “mediterranean sea programme: enhancing environmental security” (2019 2024) represents the first gef programmatic multi focal area initiative in the mediterranean.
The Mediterranean Sea Programme Enhancing Environmental Security The mediterranean sea programme (medprogramme): “enhancing environmental security” is a six (6) year (2020–2026) global environment facility (gef) funded multi focal area and cross sectoral initiative implemented in albania, algeria, bosnia and herzegovina, egypt, lebanon, libya, montenegro, morocco, tunisia, and türkiye. To accelerate the implementation of agreed upon priority actions to reduce the major transboundary environmental stresses affecting the mediterranean sea and its coastal areas while strengthening climate resilience and water security, and improving the health and livelihoods of coastal populations. To combat these urgent threats, the five year medprogramme, a pioneering gef multi focal area initiative, is working to address transboundary environmental challenges in coastal regions.
