Understanding Which Zigbee Devices Are Acting As Repeaters I am trying to understand which zigbee devices are acting as repeaters in my zigbee network. i have a bunch of osram and sengled lights which i have been reading online that they don’t act as repeaters, but when i check neighbours for these devices, i see a number of other devices connecting to them as below. I’d like to get a zigbee device that acts as a repeater. do all zigbee devices act as repeaters for all other zigbee devices, or can the enphase zigbee network be authenticated protected in some way?.

Understanding Which Zigbee Devices Are Acting As Repeaters In a zigbee network, as discussed above, only coordinators and routers act as repeaters. these devices have the capability to extend the range of the network by routing data between other devices that are not within direct communication range of each other. But to answer your question, it’s up to each manufacturer to decide which if any of their zigbee devices will act as repeaters. for example, sengled, which is not an inexpensive brand, made the decision not to have any of their devices act as zigbee repeaters. Yes, many zigbee devices may function as repeaters, especially those connected to a continuous power supply like light switches or smart plugs. devices increase the network’s stability and range by assisting in the transmission of signals between other devices. Zigbee repeaters prevent dead spots and are considered very reliable, so in short, repeaters are "normally" controllable devices in the zigbee network, but which can often forward the signal to remote devices.

My understanding of zigbee devices is that you have little to no say in how a device picks its parent and the route it uses to get messages back to the coordinator. the devices pick a route when you connect them. After that every zigbee device that is connected to mains powered will act as a repeater of the zigbee signal. you will likely need at least one or 2 between the coordinator and that far end of the house. To extend your zigbee range, strategically place zigbee repeaters or powered devices like smart plugs and bulbs throughout your home. these devices receive and retransmit signals, filling gaps and strengthening your smart home network’s connectivity. Rule of thumb: most (not all) mains powered zigbee devices are routers, including repeaters. repeaters (unlike lightbulbs, say) don’t do anything else.
