Leading On Climate Uci Sustainability Resource Center Through this charter, our organisations recognise the crucial steps we must take to make our sport’s rapid and deep emissions reductions possible by 2030. we therefore join the uci in solidarity to build a sustainable cycling of tomorrow together. Dear colleagues, i am writing to introduce the uc irvine climate collaboration, a campuswide effort to enhance interdisciplinary research, education and engagement focused on climate related challenges. Climate change is altering long term climate conditions as well as causing widespread and intensifying extreme weather events worldwide, including in california, such as frequent extreme heat events, persistent droughts, raging wildfires, damaging floods, and rising sea levels. Through the creation of the wildland urban interface climate action network, interdisciplinary research teams from uci, ucr and ucsd like this one will develop innovative strategies to identify, map and reduce climate risks in partnership with affected communities across southern california.

Through the creation of the wildland urban interface climate action network, interdisciplinary research teams from uci, ucr and ucsd like this one will develop innovative strategies to identify, map and reduce climate risks in partnership with affected communities across southern california. We strive to engage students, faculty, staff, the community, and other institutions in the pursuit of common solutions to address social, cultural, and economic needs while protecting the beauty and resources of the natural world around us. We have been approached by instructors of the uc wide “climate resilience” course , which aims to foster hope and resilience in students and translate that into climate action. over the past two years, the course has also contributed to meaningful improvements in students’ mental health. as part of an upcoming assignment, 32 students will conduct short interviews with climate researchers. At the heart of the uc climate collaboration will be a set of working groups that will serve as the foundation for cross campus engagement on climate solutions. we plan to create groups shaped by what we gather from faculty and community members about the most pressing challenges and opportunities related to climate change and sustainability. this process is grounded in listening and learning.
