Tyndall Centre To Be Part Of Uk Government S New Research Programme On Focus areas include urban environments, energy infrastructure, biodiversity and its conservation, heritage, culture, and societal values. we explore the resilience of social and natural systems to climate risks, while stress testing adaptation options, including their social impacts. The arcadia project will launch an ambitious new phase of development of the tyndall centre uiaf in order to understand better the vulnerability and resilience of urban areas.

This city scale assessment tool simulates the effects of long term changes in urban areas and can be used to test strategies for adaptation to and mitigation of climate change. Preparing and adapting to changing weather as cities grow and evolve will help mitigate the effects of climate change and increase the resilience of urban environments today. The research presented here offers a systematic analysis on the priorities related to the multiple uses of land and their implications in urban planning.

This theme seeks to better understand current and future risk, including changes to hazard, vulnerability, and exposure and hence resilience to climate change at global, national and local scales and across sectors and regions from north to south. With nearly 200 members ranging from phd researchers to professors, the tyndall centre represents a substantial body of the uk’s climate change expertise from across the scientific, engineering, social science and economic communities. It brings together scientists, economists, engineers and social scientists, who together are working to develop sustainable responses to climate change through trans disciplinary research and dialogue. At the tyndall centre for climate change research we provide evidence to inform society’s transition to a sustainable low carbon and climate resilient future.
