Twice Exceptional Child Artofit The term “twice exceptional” or “2e” refers to intellectually gifted children who have one or more learning disabilities such as dyslexia, adhd, or autism spectrum disorder. The most common types of twice exceptionality include specific learning disorders (sld) such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia and dysorthography, attention deficit and or hyperactivity impul sivity disorder (adhd), autism spectrum disorder (asd), oppo sitional defiant disorder (odd), obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety, and depression. Twice exceptional children have a combination of exceptional talent and learning disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (adhd), dyslexia or autism, which often make identification and intervention difficult. From gifted to high potential and twice exceptional: a state of the art meta review. despite the abundant literature on intelligence and high potential individuals, there is still a lack of international consensus on the terminology and clinical characteristics associated to this population. This article defines the term twice exceptional as being gifted (highly able) and having challenges with learning or physical disabilities. the focus is on understanding these children, who are brilliant in one way but at the same time in some situations are at risk.
