When we started looking at other possible causes, we discovered that fserver stop responding according to our network monitoring software we’re checking for a response on tcp port 445 to make sure the fileserver is working correctly. We've been having a ton of performance issues on our windows server 2008 r2 file server in the office of late. we've been trying to pinpoint the issue for ages but can't work it out. Resolution: if you are using microsoft native vss, ensure that the vss service is running. you can access windows task manager and verify that the status of volume shadow copy (vss) service is running. if you are using third party vss provider, ensure that you have configured hybrid workloads agents to recognize the third party vss provider. My problem is i am not sure how to troubleshoot this, due to intermittent, can't get on the server whilst it's actually happening because unresponsive. vcenter performance looks good (disk, ram, storage, network none of them maxed out) the only error in vcenter is a warning that i need to consolidate snapshots.
