Transition Into 1st Year Programme As a standalone programme within the senior cycle experience, the ty programme offers a unique opportunity where schools and communities can collaborate to encourage young people to thrive now and into the future. The department of zoology offers a week long structured programme to transition year students. the programme will introduce you to what it is like to be an undergraduate, and will give you insight into what a trained zoologist does. What is transition year (ty)? transition year (also called ty) is an optional one year programme between junior cycle and senior cycle. transition year is part of a 3 year senior cycle, but it is separate to the leaving certificate programme which lasts 2 years. •ty provides a bridge to enable students to make the transition from dependent type learning associated with the junior cycle to a more independent learning environment associated with the senior cycle •75% of students in ireland now opt to do ty before going into 5thyear.
