Transformation Purdue Arboretum Explorer Transformation was installed on the agriculture mall near marsteller street in order to create a visual pathway from the mall to the bell tower. a physical pathway also emerged, as the construction of a sidewalk was necessary due to the sculpture’s location. Renowned spanish artist, faustino aizkorbe, designed it and this is his first commissioned work in the us. viewed from above, the sculpture appears to be unfurling and creating a symmetrical pattern. this symbolized what aizkorbe refers to as “purdue’s continued evolution and changing nature, supported by the strength of its heritage.”.
Transformation Purdue Arboretum Explorer Before creating and installing the sculpture, aizkorbe visited purdue twice to meet with students, faculty, and the class of 1952. he returned a third time to help oversee the installation process. aizkorbe said campus architecture inspired him while creating transformation. In 2022, the purdue arboretum started the transition of moving all the previous data into one new online system. this system, built with a program called ark gis, was created solely by purdue.
