The Trans Coverage Track Recap Designed to track patterns in coverage across more than 200 u.s. news outlets, the tool gives reporters a clearer view of the frames, gaps and trends shaping public understanding of trans communities. The data visualizes scale of coverage by representing news events as circles, made up by dots that signify individual articles, on montana’s drag ban, marjorie taylor greene’s transphobic tweets, donald trump’s prohibition on trans military members, and many other subjects. Designed for journalists, newsrooms, and researchers committed to fair and accurate reporting, the trans news initiative draws on a dataset of over 190,000 news articles, categorizing trends in media narratives surrounding trans lives, political attacks, and community issues. The result is a collection of 190,000 articles organized under thirteen themes—ideology and culture wars, censorship and free speech, and access to public spaces, among others—spanning 2020 to 2025, showing how publications have covered trans stories over time.

The result is a collection of 190,000 articles organized under thirteen themes—ideology and culture wars, censorship and free speech, and access to public spaces, among others—spanning 2020 to 2025, showing how publications have covered trans stories over time. Since 2013, hrc and other advocates have tracked more than 250 cases of known fatal violence against trans and gender non conforming people in 37 states, territories and the district of columbia, across 150 cities and towns nationwide.
