Navigating polarised accounts of the use of technological innovations in the humanitarian field, this paper has sought to assess the conditions under which technological innovations can change the politics of spaces of humanitarian governance. This project will be the first of its kind in anthropology to focus specifically on the making of digital humanitarianism and to engage theoretically with the concept of technological innovation. Employing a qualitative ethnographic approach—including semi structured interviews and digital ethnography, the research critically examines how displaced youths (aged 18–35) engage with biometric systems, aid platforms, and mobile communication technologies. As digital technologies reshape humanitarian aid, urgent ethical questions arise about power, privacy and control – especially for displaced populations such as the rohingya in cox’s bazar.
