For her “folded map” project, johnson photographed corresponding addresses on chicago’s north and south sides. she set the images side by side to highlight the impacts of decades of. The folded map project is a community led, citizenship engagement opportunity that connects seemingly different people through real conversation. the project created “map twins” who live at corresponding addresses on the north and south sides of chicago. Starting as a photo series, using the city of chicago's grid system to identify and capture residences at corresponding addresses on the north and south sides in order to explore the visual legacies of segregation, socioeconomic disparities and racial discrimination.
