Relating surface characteristics (especially wetting and topography) and ice adhesion strength (ias) have a long history. several wetting parameters correlated with ias have been introduced. however, subsequent efforts to repeat these correlations have produced contradictory results. Specifically, we explore surface wetting, dissecting it into three distinctive facets. first, we delve into the fundamental principles that underpin surface wetting. A simple method for determining surface wetting, measuring contact angles (cas) of water droplets, can be misleading for superhydrophobic surfaces because of difficulties in positioning the baseline (for more details, see supplementary materials).
