Supporting Climate Learning Beyond The Classroom
Empowering Learners In A Warming World A Climate Change Inquiry Guide Co created by practitioners and researchers within a european consortium and piloted in nine schools across four countries, this approach integrates pedagogical theory with hands on learning in five steps: prepare, orientate, discover, make an impact, and reflect. Our ‘learning beyond the classroom’ vision encompasses a nature inspired, sustainability and climate wise curriculum, incorporating real life, relevant learning experiences and developing connections with our local global places and community.
Our Classroom Climate Educate About Climate Change On college campuses, environmental science education largely takes place in classrooms, thereby limiting impact on the full student body. by implementing an educational intervention in an informal campus setting, this study tested an approach aimed at expanding the reach of environmental learning. In the quasi experimental study, students in localized classrooms showed significant gains in climate change knowledge and in their readiness to apply science learning beyond the classroom (snowden et al., 2025). Sharing opportunities for local and national involvement helps students find ways to contribute beyond the classroom. working with students to develop climate preparedness strategies for their institutions gives them practical experience in climate adaptation planning. This guide offers ideas and support for designing and implementing climate focused school projects, including research, creative, and action oriented projects that can be adapted to different age groups and learning contexts.

Teaching climate resilience goes beyond imparting knowledge to students. it involves supporting them in building the appropriate skills and mindsets they need to navigate an uncertain future – skills like leadership, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking. It considers how education systems can best empower learners to understand, demand and shape the wider transformations that are most effective or most promising in addressing climate change and other environmental risks. this paper is structured in four sections. The toolbox for teaching climate & energy has been created to organize and highlight resources from numerous educational and science partners and programs all working toward the supporting teachers and education systems. This positioning article explored pedagogy outside of the classroom by promoting learning through collaboration with pertinent stakeholders for successful instruction.
