Structures Lab Ubc Civil Engineering
Structures Lab Ubc Civil Engineering The department has a 4840 sq. ft. (450 m2) high head room structures laboratory containing a 30 ft x 72 ft (9 m x 22 m) reaction floor which can be used with various moveable reaction frames and hydraulic loading systems for quasi static testing of large scale structural components. Ubc smart structures vancouver campus dept. of civil engineering 6250 applied science lane.
Structures Lab Ubc Civil Engineering Graduate courses are available in static and dynamic analysis, structural design, and reliability theory. the former include matrix structural analysis, advanced topics in nonlinear finite element methods, mechanics of continua, dynamics of structures, plates and shells. The structures lab located in eme 0256 is a 580 m 2 facility consisting of research and undergraduate teaching space. a 6 m x 20 m reaction floor allows for comprehensive structural and materials testing in seismic design, timber, green concrete, retrofitting and structural rehabilitation. Ubc civil engineering professor dr. tony yang leads the smart structures lab, focused on developing buildings that are safe in the most extreme earthquake conditions. Our research at the smart structures group focuses on advanced structural analysis, experimental testing, structural health monitoring, and automated construction technologies of civil infrastructure.

Our research at the smart structures group focuses on advanced structural analysis, experimental testing, structural health monitoring, and automated construction technologies of civil infrastructure. Our focus is modeling behavior of innovative structural components that offer advanced mechanical properties. in addition to mechanics, we focus on development of optimization and machine learning algorithms to create more advanced structures and systems. Ubc smart structures research group recently developed different solutions for testing structural components and structures. current infrastructure can support element level experiments under monotonic, cyclic and hybrid protocols for axial and shear demands. Have a question about our research, team, or capabilities?. Courses and lab work will cover topics such as soil mechanics and foundation design, construction management, design of steel, concrete and timber structures, as well as municipal infrastructure design, coastal engineering and environmental impact studies.
