Digital access to collections held by stanford libraries is an essential part of teaching, research, and learning. we manage a robust service that digitizes a variety of library materials, including print, audio, video, and born digital formats.
Stanford Libraries Digitization Services The digitized japanese souvenir print collection is now accessible through stanford's spotlight travel through time: japan exhibit and searchworks. the original prints are also available for research in stanford's east asia library. The digital production group (dpg) produces high quality digital images of items in stanford libraries' collections for faculty, staff, and curatorial needs. we manage and operate four digitization labs staffed by highly skilled professional imaging specialists and student assistants. Our services are supported by a program that encompasses three broad families of content types: paper based materials, born digital files, and time based media. Our labs are staffed with digital archivists and lab assistants capable of recovering data from a wide variety of digital carriers including whole computing systems, cds and dvds, thumb drives, sd cards, zip disks and floppy disks.

Day to day we focus on digitizing for patron access, exhibits, publications, and general materials processing and preservation needs. Digitization services encompasses a diverse mix of preservation and access needs, ranging from scanning printed maps to digitizing historic media to migrating and preserving digital materials.
