Speculative Realities Lab The speculative realities lab (short: speclab) is a space connecting neurosurgery, design anthropology, and the immersive arts, set between the university hospital of charité and the cluster of excellence “matters of activity” at humboldt university in berlin. The speclab is a space connecting neurosurgery, anthropology, and the immersive arts. it contributes to expanding their respective disciplinary equipment – conceptual, material, and digital – in order to animate brain related knowledge for navigation, prediction, and inspiration.
Speculative Realities Lab This advanced undergraduate course sits at the intersection of speculative design, experiential futures, and mixed reality technologies. it aims to cultivate students' innovative design capabilities in entangled realities while deeply exploring their social, ethical, and philosophical implications. In this first workshop of the speclab, together with hci scholar paulina greta stefanovic and neurosurgeon thomas picht, we challenged a group of participants from neurology, neuroscience, computer science, clinical linguistics, design and art to tell us "anatomical stories" using a 3d sketching tool. The speculative realities lab (srl) is a collaboration between the university hospital of charité and the cluster of excellence “matters of activity” at humboldt university in berlin. the speclab is co founded and co led by dr. maxime le calvé and prof. dr. med. thomas picht. At the digital neurosurgery seminar led by prof. thomas picht this week and the next, we had the pleasure of hosting a demo by the software editor brainlab. one of their researchers visited us at the speculative realities lab, bringing along crates of high tech gear.
