Solved Terrible Nvme Performance General Support Unraid I've tried a windows 10 install, same results. max transfer between gen4 nvme drives is around 1.5gb s. upon further inspection, hwinfo64 reports the drives operate as gen2 with max link speed of 1x (5 gt s): the red hat pci to pci bridge does show gen4: power mode is set to performance. My unraid setup doubles as a gaming rig. so my cache drive gets used primarily for games and vms. so that's how i use data on my ssd nvme drive. but i do have my system setup to write to the cache first, then to the array on a schedule.
Solved Terrible Nvme Performance General Support Unraid I've a pool i've set up which is a pair of nvme drives in btrfs, it doesn't act as a cache and merely as a mirror pool to act as fast storage between my machines, all of which are hard wired together via a 10gb switch. While not scientific, i see the nvme drives in the pool still showing a steady write speed even when my copy has stalled to 0. testing same file payload from unraid to windows host, i get 270 280 mb s the entire time, no problem. if i use a smaller file, say 2.8 gb from windows to unraid zfs pool, it is 270 280 mb s the entire time. I'm seeing slower than expected copy speeds between unraid nvme cache drive and truenas zfs array. copies from unraid>>truenas proceed at a steady 445mb s, however copies from truenas>>unraid start out around 700mb s, then drop to steady 200mb s. I have a 500gb nvme set up for my cache drive (btrfs) and i'm experiencing some extremely poor performance. i first noticed it when i set up a development share on the cache drive for a project.

According to unraid's support and the one guy on their forum i was chatting with, the initial poor single stream performance was the issue, (and maybe smb multichannnel doesn't work on unraid still? i got pointed to the smbstatus command but the multichannel option doesn't work.). I am about to get my hands on qty 3 of 2 tb samsung nvme drives. i just upgraded my unraid server motherboard to a gigabyte z690 aero d. i currently have 2 older ssds that one is a cache drive that my appdata folder sits on as well as my downloads folder. i want to make plex run faster at the least.
