Skywarn Recognition Day 2022 Lakeland Amateur Radio Club Blog Srd provides an annual 24 hour period to recognize all skywarn spotters serving our nation! this year’s srd will begin locally on friday, december 2nd at 7 pm and conclude on saturday, december 3rd at 6:59 pm (12 3 2022, 0000 2359 utc). Yesterday, the national weather service (nws) and amateur radio relay league (arrl) celebrated their 23rd annual skywarn recognition day acknowledging the contributions that volunteer skywarn radio operators make to the national weather service. All skywarn™ spotters provide critical weather information before, during and after adverse weather strikes. this includes reports of rain and snow, ice and wind, storms and tornadoes, flooding and fire. this is our 24 hours to recognize all of the skywarn™ spotters serving our nation!. This day is celebrated to recognize the significant contributions of amateur radio operators. they report on weather events such as tornadoes, floods, and hurricanes, ensuring that the nws receives accurate and timely data.

For the first time since 2019, skywarn recognition day 2022 will have ops at nws office with volunteer amateur radio operators, however, the scale of what is done inside the office for srd will be more limited as we will have limited amateur radio operators in the facility.
