Skoll Camfed Since 1993, camfed’s innovative education programs in zimbabwe, zambia, ghana, tanzania, and malawi have directly supported over 3.3 million students to attend primary and secondary school, and over 5.7 million children have benefited from improved learning environments. My friend and colleague angeline murimirwa is preparing to speak at the skoll world forum in oxford on the 12th of april, alongside social entrepreneurs and leaders of change from around the globe.

She started campaign for female education (camfed) in 1993, raising money through bake sales to pay school fees for 32 girls. camfed developed a model to address both cultural and financial barriers, going beyond scholarships to weave a network of support around each child and support her education as far as she wants to go. Camfed’s goal is to replace the existing cycle of poverty and inequality with a new cycle of empowerment and opportunity. the organisation’s unique approach is to not only support girls and young women through school, but also on to new lives as entrepreneurs and community leaders.
