Certified Senior Peer Support Pine tree senior council aims to build a safe and friendly social environment for older adults to socialize, exercise, and continue learning into the later years in life. With a 24 hour call system and round the clock supervision, residents can rest assured that help is always available when needed. the dedicated staff provides assistance with bathing, dressing, and transfers, as well as medication management and coordination with healthcare providers. We partner with our colleagues at pine tree camp to offer programming that harnesses the spirit of pine tree camp – like bike riding, hiking and nature exploration. (we even visit pine tree camp now and then for archery, kayaking and swimming!). Peers can help people work through life challenges like getting a job or housing, and they can provide support and reassurance that it is okay to experience symptoms of mental illness, like anxiety when things aren’t going right and depression when a person is feeling down.

In a pilot evaluation, published in the gerontologist in 2013, the authors developed a peer support intervention for older adults, reclaiming joy. stigma and lack of access to services create significant barriers to mental health treatment for older adults living in the community.
