Scratchjr Curricula Coding As Another Language This paper describes the iterative research and evaluation of the coding as another language (cal) curriculum that utilizes the free scratchjr programming language in kindergarten to second grade. The coding as another language (cal) approach introduces powerful ideas from computer science in a playful, structured, and developmentally appropriate way through unplugged games, storytelling, movement, singing and coding. The project utilizes the free scratchjr programming language, co developed by dr. bers, which is currently widely used all over the world by around 32 million children, and the pilot tested curriculum, “coding as another language (cal)”. These resources are based on the coding as another language curriculum developed by devtech (the organisation behind scratchjr). i have taken ideas from the initial block of 24 'kindergarten' lessons and reduced them to key concepts to be taught over 6 60 90min sessions.
