There are many architectural influences at work. not least is the work of carlo scarpa, on whom richard murphy is an authority. the roof terrace is a homage to the garden of the querini.

Richard Murphy Selected Projects Scarpa The Venetian Ireland The european healthcare design organisation held an awards dinner in london in february, where selected projects that they had already given awards to during the last ten years were invited to present. despite the organisation’s name, competing projects came from all over the world. Richard was educated at newcastle and edinburgh universities and for four years taught at edinburgh university and researched the work of the venetian architect, carlo scarpa, at the castelvecchio. he has since written the definitive book on the building. All four projects squeeze significant amounts of accommodation onto very restricted sites and all increase the feeling of space through the use of complex sections and occasionally tricks with mirrors. the mews houses were restricted by a 5 x 8m footprint and their existing sectional envelope. We are delighted to welcome our first guest speaker of the year, richard murphy obe to the red room for a two part lecture on thursday the 16th and friday the 17th of october, where he will speak about his own work and his research on carlo scarpa.
