Projects The 2025 african integration report presents a comprehensive assessment of the state and progress of regional integration across the african continent. the report is a complete tool intended to track africans' progress on the trail to continental unity. Despite significant progress in implementing the afcfta, intra african trade is still low at about 14.6%, making the implementation of the biat action plan essential for maximizing its benefits.
Africa Regional Integration African regional integration remains one of the continent’s major strategic priorities, driven by the pan african vision of a united, prosperous, and influential africa on the global stage. The world bank is collaborating with african countries and regional institutions to empower people, unleash trade, and optimize shared natural resources and economies of scale to achieve africa’s transformation. It presents a number of recommendations on how african states need to reorient the continent’s integration agenda in order to achieve their goals. Based on this, we can look to the ibrahim index of african governance (iiag) to unpack some of the results for the regional integration indicator across the 2024 iiag to highlight how africa is progressing on its objectives to improve regional trade and travel over the last decade.

Since independence, states in africa have been involved in regional integration as a strategy for solving their development challenges. this is because regional integration has been identified as a pivotal factor in the promotion of economic development. Overall, the collection of papers in this special issue provides a combination of cross country and case study evidence that broadens our understanding of africa’s regional and global economic integration.
