This paper explores various strategies to enhance the sustainability of hydropower in nepal, focusing on environmental conservation, community engagement, and technological innovations.

Promoting Sustainable Hydropower Development In Nepal Nepal The major strategies of the power sector have been appropriately identified as promoting private sector participation in power generation and distribution, integrating rural electrification with rural economic development programs, and strengthening power infrastructure. Ifc's nepal environmental and social (e&s) hydropower program has helped transform nepal's hydropower sector, creating a sustainable ecosystem and empowering individuals and institutions involved in hydropower development. However, nepal still lacks a clear blueprint for the overall development and management of this sector. this paper aims to review the evolution of hydropower development, future prospects and roadblocks to hydropower development. Analyses the status of self reliant energy generation reviewing its development trend within the country. it outlines t e current status of hydropower generation, opportunity associated with it and major challenges therein. paper argues that though nepal has developed only 3 %.

Having three projects qualified for the blue planet prize demonstrates that the country is putting sustainability at the centre of this development. iha opened its himalayas office in kathmandu last year and we are pleased to support nepal’s progress. This study looked at 18 hydropower projects of different sizes, ownership types, and phases of development distributed across nepal, including 13 operational projects (representing about 70% of nepal’s total generation capacity as of january 2016) and five under construction.
