Project Bloomsbury Theatre Ucl As the official theatre of students' union ucl, we showcase a diverse range of theatre shows, live performances and events, catering to both the public and university community. Ucl's home for live performance and one of london's great stages, the 541 seat bloomsbury theatre was redeveloped entirely and re opened in february 2019. total upgrade: transforming a 20th century theatre into a theatre of the 21st century.

Project Bloomsbury Theatre Ucl We were appointed by university college london to lead the design team on the complex refurbishment of the bloomsbury theatre. the theatre is owned and operated by the university and the project required an extensive programme of improvement and renewal. Built in 1968 to the designs of james cubitt & partners, the theatre provides a unique resource for students to run extra curricular student productions and has gained a reputation in a number of fields, from student opera to innovative stand up comedy. The bloomsbury theatre and studio, part of university college london, is a landmark brutalist building that first opened in 1968. it was originally known as the central collegiate building auditorium and later the collegiate theatre. The concrete framed building was constructed in 1968 and the theatre is used for both student and professional productions. in addition to the theatre, the building contains a range of different functions including the uclu fitness centre.

The concrete framed building was constructed in 1968 and the theatre is used for both student and professional productions. in addition to the theatre, the building contains a range of different functions including the uclu fitness centre. This transition is designed to enhance student engagement with the theatre, aligning with ucl’s student life strategy. this will support an increase in our extra curricular offer across a range of creative programmes and help us to meet the demand for student performance opportunities. Learn more about the bidding process to perform in the bloomsbury theatre, ucl's 541 seat theatre right at the heart of bloomsbury campus. The studio theatre is below the stage, with student study workspace and union offices either side. work included reinstatement of the 1968 theatre and works to the stage and fly tower, while services and finishes have been entirely replaced. The basement below the theatre holds the bloomsbury studio, a black box performance space with a flexible seating configuration and capacity of up to 70. the theatre building also provides access to the ucl union fitness centre and the clubs and societies centre on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors.
