I find the mini gan 5 to be highly transparent as to the different character of each of those preamps, as well as different dacs and other system changes. but i also haven't had the reliability problems you're citing with your mini gan amp. Newly designed inside and out with next level gan amp modules and our new full gan powered pfc llc converter. the amps are extremely fast and accurate. these newly designed gan amps provide state of the art top to bottom audio quality from deep thunderous lows to the sweetest mids and highs. The gan 5 simply isn't as good or dramatic in those respects compared to the gan 400. the gan 400 sort of demands your attention because each element of the music is distinctly separated while the gan 5 is more 2d and smoothly mushed together. The mini gan 5 definitely takes time to break in. it sounds very vibrant at first and opens up and moves more towards neutral after about 200 hours (running 8 10 hours and off 1 3 hours to work in the capacitors they need to charge and discharge).
